Synopsis
Meet Rachel White, a young attorney living and working in Manhattan. Rachel has always been the consummate good girl--until her thirtieth birthday, when her best friend Darcy throws her a party. That night, after too many drinks, Rachel ends up in bed with Darcy's fiance'. Although she wakes up determined to put the one-night fling behind her, Rachel is horrified to discover that she has genuine feelings for the one guy she should run from. In her wildest dreams (or worst nightmare?) this is the last thing on earth Rachel could ever have imagined happening. As the September wedding date nears, Rachel knows she has to make a choice. In doing so, she discovers that the lines between right and wrong can be blurry, endings aren't always neat and sometimes you have to risk all to win true happiness. 'Something Borrowed' is a phenomenal debut novel that will have you laughing, crying, and calling your best friend. My Review
Rachel, you just feel for her. This is my first Emily Giffin book. I know shes popular in the Adult Contemporary world. I actually watched this movie before knowing it was a novel. The story is so different in the movie, but the feeling is basically the same. I struggled right along with Rachel as she was going through this challenging situation she was in.
This story really explores some topics that are uncomfortable to bring to the light, but are a part of reality. No love story is perfect and tied up in a bow, no matter how perfect you are and this story really dissects adult relationships and how everything in life is very unpredictable.
Rachel is just a small town girl, who always plays by the rules. She's been overshadowed by her best friend Darcy her whole life. She loves her... but Darcy's strong personality is just getting to bee too much and Rachel really finds her voice and herself in this story. Unfortunately that involves Dex, the man Rachel is in love with who happens to be Darcy's fiance. There are twists and you feel knots in your stomach as you follow Rachel through her love affair and friendship. It's a good book.
The book was good. Not spectacular. It was a realistic story and I enjoyed it. It didn't blow my mind or give me too many feelings. It's worth a read though.
