Leonard- Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick
Leonard really develops well in this stand along book about a boy ready to commit suicide and taking his best friend with him. You really see Leonard grow and start to see his situation for what it is. I don't want to give too much away but you see him grow and learn and that really affects his life. You see the relationships he has and the hope he has. It's a difficult thing to read about, but mental disability is so common these days and it was enlightening to read it from Leonard's perspective.
Pat- Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick
Obviously Matthew Quick has a way of writing some amazing characters. Pat suffers from a mental disorder that has set him way back in life and he's just struggling day by day to get back to being healthy and in love. He is full of hope, so much that it almost is his draw back from seeing reality. You see Pat go from a helpless, hopeful person to someone who really gets a grasp on reality and in turn finds himself and his happiness... although, its not what he imagined it would be at all.
Sam - The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
I bet you thought I was going to go with Charlie. Charlies character is by far amazing, but I paid attention to the girl in this story. Sam's story is quiet and in the background, but you find out a lot about her past and how she's grown. She was basically a little slutty and had very low self-esteem, she was abused and then she turned it all around and blossomed into this amazing young lady with goals and ambition and most of all beauty.
Georgie - Landline by Rainbow Rowell
I really related to Georgie's character. She started out in this story as a distant wife and mother and her journey into finding out what was most important in life really shines through in this novel. You see her go through the motions in her distressed marriage and then something happens and she just comes into her own and you really see the power of love and family.
Seth - More Than This by Patrick Ness
Seth's story starts out pretty strange. He died, and then woke up in his childhood neighborhood alone. No one in sight, everything deserted. How will he survive? Why is he here? He's just a kid who goes from questioning everything to really finding himself, his purpose and although the book ends and left me with a million questions, you really know that Seth knows that there is more to life than just this!
