Synopsis
After the grisly murder of his entire family, a toddler wanders into a
graveyard where the ghosts and other supernatural residents agree to raise him
as one of their own.
Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead. There are dangers and adventures in the graveyard for a boy. But if Bod leaves the graveyard, then he will come under attack from the man Jack—who has already killed Bod's family . . .

My Review
The Graveyard Book, Wow! I’m so happy that Neil Gaiman has a
way with storytelling that just makes your imagination come to life. This is a
children’s book, in my opinion I’d say it’s a middle grade book. This is one
for the youngsters and the young at heart. My daughter is 11 and I had to read
it aloud to her because the language in the book was a little difficult to
understand. She did LOVE this story.
Nobody Owens, is just a boy finding himself and his place in the world. His family was murdered, and you don’t find out why until later, but the story just grabs you. You feel his innocence and his wonder. The characters come to life (even though they are dead) and you feel a sense of family. It’s a whimsical dark story that teaches quite a few hidden lessons like the age old don’t speak to strangers. Teaches lessons about bullying and about standing up for yourself. It teaches children about why we set boundaries for them, because we love them and want to protect them.
I loved this book. Even as an adult I enjoyed it. I could picture every scene in my head of the old graveyard and its inhabitants, of the old town and the people Bod came across. I appreciate the way Neil Gaiman told this story, it came to life for me. Because most of the characters are hundreds of years old, the language might be hard to follow for kids, but aside from that it was an easy read for me. The story and plot were great and overall I was very pleased. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys those kinds kid’s stories with a dark twist. Very fun to read.
